The 10x referral rate means that you will be in high priority in receiving free referrals that sign up without a referrer, which means you get better chances to receive some free referrals..

Yes, for someone like me it is a no brainer to buy the upgrade because I make more in cash per month than it costs me for the upgrade. So it is my way of supporting the site, getting 'free' advertising and maintain my share base. I'm curious to know if it is a good value for people who don't have a truckload of shares. Sebas said that the per share value has risen over time, so maybe the deal is getting better for them

No, it is just 2x for bronze, 5x for silver and 10x for gold. I assume maybe it is 1x for the site. That might be something to suggest to Sebas as a way to increase the value to free members that doesn't cost him much (although that may be where he makes his profit, I'm not sure)

Just looking at the referral priority for non-upgraded members at My Free Shares, and it reads "None." Going into this, I made another redemption in thepaidhelp to see where I started. Currently I've almost cut my shares in half since the change over, and I'm losing about a half a share a day. But, daily income is close to what it was right after the change over.

Not really. I totally regret buying it. It's not worth it when you've got few referrals and the random referrals is almost nil.
