Another Server Upgrade!?! (kinda forced)
29th Jul, 2022 at 3:38am

So, what was this downtime all about..?

Well, to my bad luck the provider noticed that ptcbox.me was causing excessive usage to its hosting server lately and decided to suspend my whole hosting package, taking down more than 25 customer sites and emails all at once..  Feeling beat up

Funny thing is they had sent me an email after suspending it, only my registered email was also hosted on that server, so I did not receive the notification. Thankfully a friend of mine that has his site hosted on my server as well informed me that something was not alright and I got in touch the provider support to re-grant me access in order to fix the issues.

At least they replied quickly and unblocked my access, so I got everything else up and running except ptcbox.me. The timing was so bad that I had to deliver a big project this week and my timeline was already overflowing (I need to deliver that tomorrow).

So, the quickest solution was to move ptcbox.me to another server I manage, this time on a VPS which means we are no longer on a shared server without limitations, apart from the hardware itself.

And unfortunately this also didn't go that smooth because the forum technology is rather old and took a lot of fixing and tweaking to get it to function "properly". I still haven't got the admin panel to work, so it's not 100% back up and running but I'll figure it out, soon.

If you notice anything out of place or malfunctioning please let me know and I'll try to fix it probably during the weekend.
The tech specs of the new server are the following:
  • 4 CPU Cores
  • 8GB Ram
  • 50 GB super fast NVMe storage
  • 32TB of traffic
  • EU Datacenter
  • Unlimited email accounts
  • Unlimited domains - subdomains
  • Cyberpanel Admin
  • OpenLiteSpeed Server

I hope you won't face any big issues.. sorry for any weird phrasing on this post.. It's 3:30 am and I've worked around the clock since yesterday morning. Since the forum is online, I'm dropping dead for a couple of hours now... Phew

Take care guys, and sorry for the fuss! Smiley

Edited:
Turns out you will face some issues... Something gets messed up with file permissions causing some posts to not open.
I'll try to sort it out during the following days as well..

Yeap, that was the issue that took the most time to overcome.. it was not executing .pl (Perl language) files at all.
It was a server configuration issue that was not well documented, so I had a lot of trial-and-error, till I finally figured it out, so I happily got to my next problem.. Grin

It now gets executed as the wrong user... but eventually I'll get that sorted out too.  Smiley

Ok, it seems that things are back to normal now.  Phew

I've figured out how to fix the admin as well as the user permissions issue.
If you get to notice any error message anywhere on the forum please let me know.
