Title: Server Upgrade
Post by SolidSnake on 27th Aug, 2021 at 10:46am
Hello there, it's been a while since an announcement was posted here, so here's something fresh:

I have just renewed the domain name and will be transferring the ptcbox.me domain to my main hosting server that is much stronger in terms of resources.

This will be aligned with all my other self-owned but also clients' sites, that I've been developing lately and will support automated backups, better caching and better scaling for future development.

I will run some compatibility tests prior to actually moving the forum, so that it all goes smoothly, and hopefully there will be no downtime at all.

The only thing that could go wrong at that point are posts that might happen to be inserted right on the DNS switching time.

At any case I will keep you up to date for the exact time I push the switch button, but also when I have verified we have actually moved.

Let's keep rocking!  [smiley=z06-guitar.gif]

If you can see this message then you are already using the new server!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
You should be noticing a boost in page load speed.

So, please let me know if you notice anything broken, I'll be testing stuff throughout the following hours..

What's new with this server?

To name a few benefits of my hosting package:
[list bull-greenball]
  • Running on 56 cores (threads)
  • 2GB Ram (allowing boost up to 6GB)
  • Unlimited traffic
  • Unlimited disk space (actually limited to 300,000 inodes)
  • Unlimited email accounts
  • Unlimited domains - subdomains
  • UK Based Datacenter
  • A fully automated backup system I have implemented for all my clients.
  • Many latest technologies to take advantage of..

Only 2GB of RAM? Even my phone has 6...

RAM is a critical component for webservers. You should consider upgrading that to at least 16GB.
    I'd recommend dotblock.com for a US-based server instead.

True, though for now it is sufficient for websites that are well optimized.
Heavy processes get boosted so it handles them pretty well too.

Plus it also uses Litespeed so WooCommerce/OpenCart e-shops hosted there run flawlessly too.
And it can always get upgraded as we go.

  • I won't pretend to know what that means but things do seem to be running well.  ;D
